PLEASE BE AWARE…dosing changes for Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Dr Thomas does not recommend acetaminophen under any circumstances.
Concentrated acetaminophen infant drops (80mg/1ml) will be discontinued due to concerns of dosing inaccuracies. There are reports that the infant drops are being given in teaspoons rather than via the dropper (included with the medicine) which causes an overdose. This change will go into effect starting in mid-2011.
This change means the current children’s liquid concentration acetaminophen (160/5ml) will become the only liquid concentration available for all children under 12 years old.
The dosing reference sheet on the next page has been updated to reflect these new guidelines.
